Two Day Mountain Ride - Day 2

We woke to the most perfect weather on Wednesday. Perfect blue skies and cool temps.  Departing the motel early that morning we rode West Virginia highway 33, past the German Valley (above) on our way to Blackwater Falls.

At the German Valley overlook, Dennis Klakring, me and Jeff Klakring.  Lots of history with us three.  Looking at this photo I am really beginning to believe Dennis was once, or still is, a Rainbow Warrior.
I hit 60 years old a few weeks back (sucks too)...Dennis this October.  He now lives in Arkansas and has lived there for 17 years with 15 years in between those 17 in Washington State.  We stay in touch often, but only get to see one another from time to time.  All the way back to High School. Thinking about our time, it's a wonder we are still alive, or never made it to jail.  Dennis and his wife Linnea drove out with his brand new Harley in tow and we have been spending some good riding time together and as always, reminiscing.

Here Dennis and Tom headed into the Gateway for breakfast.

Jeff, checking out Dennis' new bike for a rattle...nothing was found, so we determined it was the marbles in his head.
Seneca Rocks.

A weed among the weeds.

Seneca Rocks walking path.

Dennis...always the Menace.

Peeking Jeff checking out the TA TA's.

Great picture Joe!!! You can just see all the comings and goings from this business way back in it's time.  So much history in our small towns.

BLACKWATER FALLS.

OH BOY!  Need to think about the return trip.

At the falls...Jeff, Tom and Dennis.

Wild Hogs?

Remember those steps I did.

That's about it for this trip...oh yes, one side note.  Tom likes to chew his gum and when he's done he tosses it to the side as he rides.  Well, Dennis was asking me what he kept taking out of his mouth and throwing...I told him "his gum".  I asked why do you ask...While cleaning his bike this is what Dennis discovered:

                                                                             THE END

Two Day Mountain Ride - Day 1

On Tuesday, Dennis Klakring, Jeff Klakring, Tom Frank and myself departed Edgewater with light rain and thick cloud coverage. Our bikes were clean and looking good...only to last for about a mile. Our first night's destination, Franklin, West Virgina. Over the 301 bridge and towards Orange, VA. Picking up Hwy. 33 as our direct route to Franklin. All morning the sun came and went and the skies threatened hard rain. Warnings of strong storms were broadcast on our radios.

Stopping to put on our rain gear proved to be the answer to keep the rain at bay. Man does it get hot in those suits!

Riding into Harrisonburg and with the big weather behind us it was time to pull off the rain gear and check in with the office. Jeff on the left doing some real work and Tom in the blue shirt calling Grady White boats to find a better helm seat for his new 33 foot Grady.

We arrived at Franklin to find the overnight accommodations, slim! Thompson's Motel looked a bit suspicious from the outside, but turned out to be a good choice. well, it was the only choice.

Our rooms were upstairs, so we took the steps up, only to end up on the outside deck of one of the many folks who are residents of the motel. This lady was well into her 80's and had no problem with us traversing across her outside living. Since her deck was gated off with a small rail system from the other rooms, Jeff told her in his younger years he could have easily jumped the rail instead of having to open the door. She replied..." Well, all my boyfriends jump it!"
Settled in and checking out Tom's new ride. 2011 Harley Ultra CVO to the tune of $40,000!!! OMG!!! Ok...are you seeing the trend here...a new 33' Grady White and a new CVO Harley.
Uhmmm.

That evening we went into the Thompson Restaurant. Our best recommendation is don't order the T-Bone.

BY the way...not sure I am liking this blog stuff.   The comment box has dropped way down the page. WTF is going on?

Rain Dance

The weather seems to be not cooperating, althought whatever it is, it is. Hope to head out Tuesday a.m., destination unknown. Looks like it's gonna be decided upon around 10 a.m.
Four Harleys ready to roar. Me, I'm hoping someone comes up with a plan where I can just lay back as the last bike and follow. Have done my share of planning. My turn to be clueless. Yeah, I know...not the first time on the clueless thing.

The trip is planned. 451.1 miles in two days...going out will be nice...coming home...rush hour...

Road Trip

My own blog. What have I done...or rather am attempting to do.

Breaking the bonds of Facebook. I know not what I do. Spent some time trying to figure out how to set this thing up. Not sure it's worth it. Time will tell I guess.

Dennis and Linnea showed up this evening with his Harley in tow. It's off to the hills we go this week.
